It is half-magical, half-real. It is a realm where anything is possible.<br /><br />The name of this realm comes from the species that inspired it. The Baiji Dolphin, (bye-gee), lived for tens of thousands of years in the Yangtze River in China until very recently. It has now been listed as "functionally extinct" because no one can find it anymore. It's decline and extinction are due to the usual suspect: human beings. Increased human activity in the river such as serious pollution from the industrialization of the river creates a loss of healthy habitat for the dolphin, and the results of over-fishing don't help either. This dolphin was known in China as the "Goddess of the Yangtze" and the legend that surrounded this species was that a long time ago a beautiful Chinese princess wanted to marry her true love, but her father forbid her for he was not a prince. She was forced to marry a man she did not love and so instead, jumped into the river that she loved and became a dolphin. The Baiji's Latin name is Lipotes vexillifer and this means, literally, The Left Behind Flag Bearer.
